The National Identification Authority (NIA) has today, Monday, 7th April 2025, begun issuing Ghana Cards to clear a backlog of printed cards and facilitate first-time registrations at all its District Offices in the Greater Accra Region. The exercise targets Ghanaians who applied for first-time issuance, replacements, or updates to their personal records since June 2023 but have not yet received their cards.

Eligible individuals are directed to collect their cards from the specific District Offices where they initially registered.

Additionally, the NIA has opened registration to all citizens aged 15 years and above who have not yet enrolled for the Ghana Card.

The Authority in a Press Statement emphasized that both the issuance of backlogged cards and first-time registrations are free of charge, urging the public to report any staff demanding unauthorized fees.

However, card replacement and personal record updates remain payable services.

The initiative follows the NIA’s earlier acquisition of 700,000 blank cards to address pending applications and streamline identification processes.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring universal access to the Ghana Card as a critical tool for national identification. For inquiries, the public can contact the NIA via 0302 999 309.
