The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has debunked rumours circulating online that Super Eagles player Victor Osimhen has been banned from the national team. The rumours allegedly stemmed from Osimhen’s recent social media outburst against former head coach Finidi George. However, NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi clarified in an official statement, that no such decision has been made.

Sanusi urged the media to collaborate with the NFF to resolve issues positively and focus on the bigger picture, rather than escalating matters unnecessarily. He emphasised that there was no official communication from the NFF regarding Osimhen’s ban, and the rumours are entirely unfounded.

“The NFF hereby implores the media to join hands with the body to positively resolve issues and focus on the big picture all the time, rather than needlessly escalate certain matters. There was no official communication from the NFF, yet some people have gone to town to talk about a ban on Osimhen from the National Team. This is not good at all.”

“Our focus presently is to resolve all matters around the Super Eagles and be able to look ahead with confidence to the 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the remaining six matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series.

“This is not the time to spread falsehood and foul the public space any more.”

The statement from the NFF comes as a relief to fans of the Super Eagles, who were concerned about the potential loss of a key player.

Osimhen’s skills on the field have been instrumental in the team’s success, and his absence would be deeply felt.

The NFF’s clarification has put the rumours to rest, and fans can now look forward to seeing Osimhen in action for the national team.
