President John Dramani Mahama has stated that no new school will be built in the country without a teachers accommodation attached to it.
Delivering his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) President Mahama said, the commencement of the ‘Teacher Dabr3’ initiative aims to improve the welfare of teachers and provide incentives for educators to work in rural areas.
Addressing Parliament, he further announced a 20% allowance for teachers who would agree to work in rural areas. This initiative he said is to reward teachers for the sacrifice and ensure quality education.
According to the plan, District Assemblies will be involved in the scheme to ensure that teachers are present and teaching in the rural areas to improve teacher retention and attract new educators.
