His campaign is dubbed “The New Dawn”. The New Dawn strategy has a six-point focus to solve the country’s economic challenges. Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, the former General Secretary of the party, is giving his second shot at the NPP Presidential Primaries to lead the party into the 2024 election. Mr. Agyapong says his six-point master plan includes a robust and resilient economy, prudent fiscal responsibility, social cohesion, and ensuring full accountability to the people.

Education:

Mr. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong was born on 6 March 1962, in the Garden City Kumasi, the Capital of Ashanti. He is the son of Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong, one of three prominent Ghanaian judges who was abducted and murdered during the early years of the PNDC. He had his secondary school education at Mfantsipim School, where he had his O’and A’ Levels. Mr. Kwabena Agyapong holds a BSc Degree in Civil Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi. Kwabena Agyepong is an ardent sports enthusiast. He worked with the Ghana Highway Authority for six years as Materials and Quality Control Engineer. In 1990, he was admitted into the Ghana Institution of Engineers as a member. Then in 1992, he set up his own Engineering Firm Constro Consult.

Time with Ghana Broadcasting Corporation:

Mr. Agyapong was the host of GTV Primetime Programme Sports Highlight in the 90s. He also hosted several sports tournaments, including the African Cup of Nations, Olympic Games, and other events.

Political Career:

He became active in Ghanaian politics when Ghana reentered constitutional rule after over a decade of Military rule. Kwabena Agyepong had an active role in the campaigns of NPP Presidential Candidates Prof. Albert Adu Boahen in 1992, John Kufuor in 1996, and the famous victory of the NPP in the 2000 elections, which saw JA Kufuor win the election to occupy the highest office of the land. He was appointed Presidential Press Secretary by President Kufuor in 2006. Mr. Agyapong resigned from his position to pursue his Presidential ambition. He was among the 17 Presidential Aspirants who contested the NPP Presidential Primaries to succeed President JA Kufuor. In 2014, Kwabena Agyapong was elected General Secretary of the NPP. He was, however, suspended by the Party alongside the Party Chairman Paul Afoko and 1st Vice Chairman Sammy Crabbe following a petition from some party members in 2015. Mr. Agyapong is making a second attempt at the NPP’s Presidential Candidature 16 years after his first attempt. His message of a New Dawn is hinged on six strategic areas. These are: a Ghana that is economically robust and resilient, fiscally responsible, socially cohesive and fully accountable to the good people, a lean Government, restoring meritocracy and professionalism in the civil and public services.

He said his administration will lead a lean government and ensure efficiency in government to prove that Ghanaians can manage their affairs better.

Mr. Kwabena Agyapong believes his long-standing service to the NPP, from 1992 as a Young Executive Club Member through his support for the party’s first Presidential Aspirant Prof. Adu Boahene, to his contribution to President Kufuor from 1996 to 2000, which brought the party to power in 2001, and his work as a Presidential Press Secretary as well as his short term as a General Secretary of the NPP, puts him in good standing to lift the flag of the NPP into the 2024 General Elections.
