On August 26, 2023, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold a special delegation conference, which is a special electoral college, to shortlist the 10-flagbearer aspirants to five for the November 4, 2023, presidential and parliamentarian primaries of the party.

The NPP Presidential Election Committee, under the chairmanship of a former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, has been tasked with organising and supervising the election of the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general election.

959 delegates, as approved by the party’s electoral committee and the electoral commission, are expected to turn out and vote on August 26 at the 17 designated polling stations across the country.

Speaking on GTV, the National Communication Director of the NPP, Mr Richard Ahiagbah, mentioned that the number of delegates representing the electoral college for this year’s super conference is clearly specified in the party’s constitution, with 20 proxy voters duly approved to participate.

“The number is stipulated by our constitution and directs who ought to be a part of that, including categories of people in the national executive, national council, regional executives, representation from women, youth, and foreign branches, former executives, MPs, and all card bearers of the party,” he said.

“Our constitution actually specifies who ought to be part in Article 13,” he added.

The final five, he noted, will be selected based on the number of votes they gain from the electoral college and further balloted ahead of the November 4 presidential and parliamentary primaries.
