NPP Super Delegates Congress: Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto scales through

Former Agriculture Minister, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has scaled through successfully to become one of the five candidates who have qualified for the next phase of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential race in November 4, 2023.

Provisional results put Dr Owusu Afriyie as the fourth candidate to make the cut in a highly competitive Super Delegates Congress which saw 10 Presidential aspirants contest for a place in the top five in order to contest in the NPP November Primaries.

The 5 aspirants who have been selected according to provisional results are, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who got an overwhelming endorsement from delegates to win the first place in the Super Delegates Congress.

Also qualifying for the next round is Kennedy Ohene Agyapong who secured more endorsements as the second force in the race. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen came third, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto secured the fourth position.

The tie is now between Francis Addai-Nimoh and Boakye Agarko to determine who makes the final cut.

Announcing the results, the Electoral Commission says the party will now have to determine who takes the final slot.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Election Committee, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye said there will be a run-off between Francis Addai-Nimoh and Boakye Agyarko on Saturday, September 2, 2023 to break the tie and decide who takes the final slot.

Boakye Agyarko and Francis Addai-Nimoh secured nine (9) votes each in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential race organised on Saturday, August 26, 2023 to shortlist five candidates for the ultimate on November 4, 2023.

The nine votes each means a tie at the 5th position.
