Eighty-four aspiring Members of Parliament including ten women are facing the Laud Commey, Dr. Charles Dwamena and Haruna Mohammed led Vetting Committee, in their bid to represent twenty-two Constituencies in the Eastern Region.
That number, together with Abetifi, represented by Food and Agriculture Minister, Bryan Yaw Acheampong, Upper West Akim, represented by Deputy Transport Minister, Fred Obeng Adom and Director of the National Lottery Authority, Sammi Awuku, representing Akuapem North who are contesting unopposed are all Constituencies with sitting Members of Parliament.
Late last year, the party’s Orphan Constituencies went through the Vetting process. Yesterday, aspirants from Achiase, Ofoase-Ayirebi, New Juaben South, Suhum, Kade, Atiwa West and Asene Manso Akroso Constituencies faced the Committee in Koforidua, the regional capital.
In an interview, Information Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who is seeking another term encouraged party faithful across the country to conduct themselves with respect for one another during and after the Vetting process.
He disclosed that Ghanaians still believe the NPP is the best bet to ensure development across the country.
While commending members of the Vetting Committee for a successful conduct of events, MP for Suhum, Kwadjo Asante noted that he would ensure unity through dialogue when mandated to serve a second term.
Director of Political Affairs at the office of the Chief of Staff, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, who is also contesting the Suhum seat was confident of victory in the primaries.
The primaries are slated for January 27th this year.
