Nsoatreman FC has announced its decision to withdraw from the Ghana Premier League, citing recent incidents that have compromised the safety of their players and officials.

The club’s decision comes after a series of disturbing events, including a violent incident during their match against Asante Kotoko that resulted in the tragic loss of life of a supporter.

In a press release, Nsoatreman FC explained that the safety of their players and officials could no longer be guaranteed, forcing them to step away from the league. T

he club’s decision is currently pending approval from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), which has yet to respond to Nsoatreman’s request. If approved, the league will continue with 17 teams instead of 18 for the remaining 14 matches.

The implications of Nsoatreman’s withdrawal are significant, particularly in the relegation battle. With Karela United, Legon Cities, and Accra Lions currently occupying the bottom three spots, the reduction in teams could have a profound impact on the league’s standings.

Nsoatreman’s decision may also spark a wider conversation about safety and security in Ghanaian football.

The move follows a violent incident during Nsoatreman’s matchday 19 clash against Asante Kotoko at Nana Kronmansah Park, where Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as ‘Nana Pooley’, tragically lost his life after being fatally stabbed by unknown assailants.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the Ghanaian football community, highlighting the need for improved safety measures and greater accountability.
