The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), has issued a one-week ultimatum to the West African Examination Council, WAEC to release all withheld 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results of some students. NUGs says the delay is too long and the refusal to adhere to this demand, will lead to a nation wide protest.
Speaking at a press briefing on February 4, NUGS President, Daniel Korley Botchway insisted that WAEC must release the results within a week.
He argued that the examination body has had enough time to investigate since January 2, 2025.
“If WAEC fails to release the results within a week, we will take legal action and start protests across the country. We will make sure they do not feel comfortable in their offices,” Mr. Botchway warned.
He also suggested that if WAEC cannot handle the examinations properly, the government should find a new organization to take over.
NUGS also accused WAEC of treating students unfairly and being biased in handling withheld results. The Union is determined to fight until the affected students receive their results.
WAEC went to the High Court on Thursday, January 30, to stop an earlier court order that directed them to release the results. The results were withheld because of suspected malpractice during the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
