The Accra High Court discharged Kwesi Nyantakyi, the former Ghana Football Association President, on February 13, 2025. This decision has reaffirmed Nyantakyi’s long-held belief that he was “unfairly targeted” in the explosive “Number 12” investigative piece, which was released on June 6, 2018.

Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi expressed his gratitude in a statement following the ruling, thanking his family, legal representatives, friends, and supporters for their unwavering support throughout the prolonged legal proceedings.

Reflecting on his five-year ordeal, Nyantakyi highlighted the challenges faced, during which the prosecution consistently failed to present evidence against him.

The legal journey began on March 4, 2020, when Nyantakyi was first arraigned on charges of conspiracy to commit fraud by an agent, fraud by an agent, and corruption by a public officer. After nine court appearances, the case was discharged on March 11, 2021, due to the prosecution’s inability to submit a single witness statement. At the time, Justice Comfort Tasiame remarked, “I think the prosecution may need a longer time to put their house in order.”

Justice Tasiame further criticized the delays, stating, “Justice delayed, they say, is justice denied. Justice is a two-way traffic for both the prosecution and the accused.”

She highlighted the frustration caused by the protracted case, mentioning that it had been over a year since the Case Management Conference was set to begin, yet the prosecution continually adjourned the proceedings. The judge emphasized the need for the prosecution, with its extensive resources, to file witness statements without unnecessary delays.

With the latest ruling, Nyantakyi considers the case closed, reaffirming his belief that he was unjustly targeted. He remains steadfast in his innocence, extending his gratitude to those who supported him throughout this arduous journey.
