The Oti Boateng Senior High School Old Students Association, OBOSA, has launched its 2023 homecoming at the school’s premises in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, under the theme, “Harnessing Diversity for Collective Development”.
The homecoming seeks to bring all past students of the school together to find ways of providing both infrastructure and academic development to the school and helping enhance effective teaching and learning so as to propel the school to greater heights.
The homecoming launch coincided with the 10th Anniversary celebration of the school’s Police Regimental Band which is the second-best National Senior High School Regimental Band in the country.
Parents, teachers, old students, students, and invited guests were thrilled with musical performances and beautiful display by the school’s Regimental Band and the cadet corps.
The Old students used the occasion to present musical instruments, including Clarinet, Glockenspiel and Alto Saxophone worth five thousand Ghana cedis to the band. Citations of honour were also presented to the Headmaster, John Hawkson Arthur; Assistant Headmaster in charge of Academics, Francis Terkpertey; and the masters in charge of the band and cadet corps for their excellent contribution which has led to the band achieving the feat.
The OBOSA National President, Samuel Kwesi Appah-Peniel, noted that the school, which is 32 years old, was ranked the 15th best in the country, third best in the Eastern Region, and second best in the New Juaben Municipality according to the school performance league table of the West African Examinations Council published by the Ghana Education Service in 2019.
He pledged the association’s support to the school’s management to take the number one spot in the country in terms of academic related activities.
The Koforidua Divisional Police Commander, ACP Kofi Adzei-Tuadzra, who represented the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Twumasi-Ankrah, as the guest of honour, commended the OBOSS Police Regimental Band and the cadet corps for the excellent display.
He urged parents to encourage their wards to enroll in regimental bands, as it will help inculcate discipline, perseverance, respect, and teamwork in them.
The Headmaster of Oti Boateng Senior High School, OBOSS, John Hawkson Arthur, explaining the essence of the regimental band, said it enhances one’s ability to perform multi-task, gives a sense of responsibility and aids in the development of self-motivation, self-control and self-discipline which are very critical in human development.
Activities lined up for the homecoming include career guidance and counselling day, blood donation and health walk, games, float and climaxed with a durbar, dinner and fundraising on the fifth of August 2023.
Some sister schools who came to support OBOSS include Suhum Senior High Technical, Oyoko Methodist Senior High, Pope John Senior High and Minor Seminary among others.
