What will our role as parents be if we expect government to take care of feeding while providing free SHS. Clinical psychologist, Daniel Bruce, has commended the government’s efforts in providing free education to Ghanaians while urging parents to help the government save money by handling the feeding of their kids in the schools.
Speaking on the GTV breakfast show on January 15, 2025, Bruce noted that he benefited from free education from primary school to his master’s degree, hinting that government bursaries helped him at his master’s level and was receiving payment during his teacher training college days. According to him, Ghanaians did not cry and beg any politician for free education because it has been enjoyed by Ghanaians since time immemorial.
He emphasized that the government had done enough in providing infrastructure, training teachers, and paying their salaries, and therefore, it is unrealistic to expect the government to also feed children.
Bruce urged parents to take responsibility for their children’s education and well-being, rather than relying solely on the government.
He suggested that parents contribute to their children’s education by paying for meals, which would allow the government to allocate resources to other important areas like building of roads or houses.
‘’We want Ghana to develop so let’s help her in a way by paying for feeding so that our peace of mind is assured knowing that our children are eating well’’ he urged parents.
