Parliament Thursday, July 2 observed a minute silence in memory of late former General- Secretary of the ruling NPP and CEO of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu–Afriyie, affectionately called Sir John.

The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu said members of Parliament will forever learn from the experience of the departed politician.

The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu described Sir John as an exemplary politician.

The Speaker, Professor Aaron Mike Ocquaye, said the rapport between Sir John and the General-Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketsia epitomises what politics ought to be in the country.

Meanwhile, the Speaker has announced that Research Assistants who have refused to work from home, will be sanctioned.

According to him, the sanctions include suspension without pay and outright dismissal.

As a measure to curb the outbreak of Covid-19 in Parliament, the Speaker directed non-essential staff, including Research Assistants of MPs and National Service Personnel to work from home.

Some have, however, defied the order and are still going to Parliament, a situation the Speaker says is endangering the lives of MPs and other workers.
