The Job 600 building in parliament caught fire during the early hours of 9am this morning the cause of the fire yet unknown but the fire has been doused by the Ghana National Fire Service with all MPs, ministers and staffers evacuating the building.
The Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, ACFO 1 Roberta Ghanson assured the media that they were deploying all critical assets to douse the fire that engulfed the job 600 building which serves as offices for members of parliament as well as parliament service staff.
“Around 9:45am, we received a distress call, in less than five minutes, we arrived with our appliances. Our aim is to get the fire confined so it doesn’t travel but we will only know the cause of the fire after our firefighting,” she said.
According to her, they had deployed three fire tenders already so the situation was under control. Fortunately, parliament is on break at the moment so there was not much sitting ongoing.
Currently, staff are still awaiting instructions to get back into the building to take their belongings and leave because not much key business will take place today due to the abrupt fire though it has been put under control.
This is not the first time the Job 600 building has experienced a fire, as a similar incident occurred in 2012 during its renovation
