Old Students of OLA Senior High School (SHS) in the Volta Region intend to mobilise resources, either cash or materials, to construct a 700-bed ultra-modern dormitory for the school. The edifice, which will be known as ‘’POGA Legacy House’’, when completed, will house facilities such as shops, private rooms for students, and bucket storage rooms, among others.

This was made known at the launch of the 70th Anniversary of the school in Accra. The project is expected to ease pressure on the existing school facilities and also ensure the accommodation of more students.

Speaking at the event, Retired Supreme Court Judge Mrs. Agnes Mercy Dordzi, who is also an old student, commended the school for playing a yeoman’s role in grooming girls to become responsible adults.

‘Our Lady of Apostles’ Senior High School, popularly known as OLA Girls in Ho, was established in 1954 by Bishop Anthony Konings, then Bishop of the Keta Diocese of the Catholic Church. From humble beginnings with a student population of 35, the school has risen to become one of the best schools in the Volta Region and, indeed, Ghana. Currently, the student population stands at more than three thousand. Justice Agnes Dordzi, who was the guest of honour at the anniversary launch, noted the contribution of the early missionaries to the human resource development of the country by prioritising education.

The Headmistress, Benedicta Mawunyo Agbezudor, pledged the commitment of the school to providing quality and holistic education to young girls. Unveiling the ultra-modern dormitory design, an Architect and also an old student, Josephine Kperseseh, said a shop has been incorporated into the facility to give students a one-stop-shop experience.

Present was the founder and Executive Chairman of McDan Group of Companies, Daniel MacCauley, who said he is channeling support towards helping a lot of young people, especially females, because research has shown that women are good entrepreneurs. He also encouraged the youth to always believe in themselves, regardless of what or where they find themselves in life. The ceremony was used to unveil an Anniversary Cloth.
