Northern Regional Communications Directorate of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, has confirmed the suspension of two members of its communication team.
Alhaji Ibrahim Kaleem and Dauda Jantuma, were suspended indefinitely at a media briefing for defying directives of the Regional Chairman to desist from campaigning for a flagbearer hopeful on all social media platforms.
Confirming the news in an interview with GBC News in Tamale, the Northern Regional Communications Director, Mohammed Sheriff Ibrahim, said the two members took part in a program designed to advance the course of campaigning for a flagbearer hopeful, Alan Kyeremanteng on a Tamale-based Radio Station.
Joyce Kantam Kolamong reports that the National Council of the NPP in July 2021 issued a directive that Party Communicators should not use any form of traditional media or social media to project for or campaign against leading party members who aspire to become party flag bearers in the 2024 general election.
“Any Communicator found doing so shall be suspended without any prejudices to any further action based on the Constitution of the Party”.
According to the Northern Regional Communications Director of the NPP, Mohammed Sheriff Ibrahim, the directive was issued following some persons or group of persons who seemed to be vouching and indirectly campaigning for some flagbearer hopefuls after the 2020 elections.
He said the National Executives saw the development as unhealthy to the Party and therefore issued that directive.
“Some members of the party in the region have completely disregarded the directives even though there have been attempts by the Executives to call them to order”.
Mr. Ibrahim said the impunity and disregard for party regulations will not be countenanced in the region and advised members to “desist from the act since it has the tendency to disrupt the peace within the party”.
