President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron for his re-election.
“Warm congratulations to His Excellency Emmanuel Macron on his historic re-election, for a 2nd term, as President of the French Republic. I wish him well in the discharge of his mandate, and in the crucial tasks of uniting the French nation and helping to weather the buffeting storms confronting Europe and the world…” President Akufo-Addo wrote in a Facebook post made on Monday, April 25, 2022.
President Akufo-Addo assured Mr Macron of Ghana’s co-operation and continuing friendship.
Ghana’s President thus joins the growing list of World Leaders sending congratulatory messages to the French President elect.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, European Council President Charles Michel, US President Joe Biden, Prime Ministers of Belgium and Luxembourg are some of the World Leaders who have congratulated the President for his victory over his far-right rival.
Mr Macron secured a convincing victory over rival Marine Le Pen. He won by 58.55% while his rival had 41.45%. This is a greater margin than expected.
He becomes the first French President to be re-elected in 20 years.
