Ashanti Region:
Correspondent Georgina Ama Ankomah reports that the ongoing Constituency Executives elections of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, has been described generally as very peaceful and orderly.
The elections supervised by the Electoral Commission are expected to end on Monday, May 2, 2022. For now, 10 out of the 47 Constituencies have so far elected their Executives.
These include; Manhyia South, Bekwai, Asante Akyem South, Offinso North, Offinso South, Asante Akyem Central and Nsuta Kwamang Beposo.
Majority of the Constituencies would hold their elections May 1,2022. Constituencies including Obuasi West, Atwima Nwabiagya South and Bosome Freho will hold their elections on Monday the 1st of May.
The Suame Constituency held its elections on April 30, 2022.
The atmosphere at the Promising Star Hotel where 965 delegates were expected to vote in the keen contest amidst heavy security presence.
The Ashanti Regional 1st Vice Chairman of the NPP Kwabena Nsenkyire who spoke to our Correspondent commended delegates and aspirants for conducting themselves well and urged those yet to vote to take a cue.
Greater Accra Region
Kpone:
The NPP Kpone Katamanso Election Coordinator, Felix Nii Annang-La, says one thousand three hundred and five delegates are expected to cast their vote for the ongoing Constituency Elections.
Speaking to GBC News, he said 34 Candidates were expected to contest the elections, however one was disqualified during the vetting.
Klottey Korle:
The NPP Constituency Executive Elections for Klottey Korle Constituency which was scheduled for April 30,2022 began late due to a delay in printing of ballot papers.
The Constituency Research and Elections Officer Alhassan Benau in an interview with GBC’S Jacob Aggrey said the elections were expecting one thousand one hundred delegates, 11 Coordinators, 17 Constituency Executives and Council of Patron to take part in the elections.
He assured electorates of a smooth voting process because the party implored the services of the Ghana Police Service.
Some of the electorates were not happy with the way the elections were planned. GBC News spoke to some of the electorate at the Klottey Korle Constituency.
Ledzokuku Elections:
Some NPP Candidates at the Ledzorkuku Constituency have expressed their frustration over the delay in the commencement of voting which was supposed to start at 7am but was delayed till 12:30 pm.
The aggrieved Candidates said they arrived at the polling station before the 7am mark but had to wait for hours before officials of the Electoral Commission arrived with the ballot papers for the commencement of the voting way beyond 12:30 pm.
Some delegates also used the opportunity to call for unity among all NPP supporters to enable the party succeed in its desire to break the eight.
Ayawaso Elections:
Counting was ongoing at the time of filing this report. At the Ayawaso East Constituency, the voting was delayed for three hours because of the delay of ballot papers. Some delegates told GBCNEWS that even though the officials arrived late, the process was peaceful.
Wa Elections:
Counting of votes was underway at the Wa Technical Institute in Wa where the Wa Central Constituency election had taken place in the Upper West region, according to Our Regional Correspondent Sualah Abdul-wahab who observed the exercise and said it was overall successful.
Yendi Elections:
The suspended Yendi Constituency Executive Elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been scheduled for Sunday, May one.
The Northern Regional Executive committee of the NPP earlier suspended the elections originally slated for Thursday April 28,2022.
The suspension followed a petition by some 123 aggrieved polling station executives whose names were removed from the polling station register.
The matter was initially taken to court but was later withdrawn and sent before an Alternative Dispute Resolution, ADR, Committee constituted by the regional executive committee.
A statement issued by the General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu said the committee concluded on a roadmap agreed by all relevant stakeholders that the elections should be held on “Sunday May 1, 2022 under the supervision of the Yendi Constituency Elections Committee as well as the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
Meanwhile, eleven aspirants in the ongoing internal elections of the NPP in Yendi have pulled out of the election.
They accused the leadership of the party of favouring other aspirants.
The statement, however, said the decision by the leadership of the party to hold the elections May 1,2022 was binding and would be implemented.
