279 aspirants compete for MMDCE appointments in Volta Region

A total of two Hundred and Seventy-Nine (279)) persons have successfully filed for an appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in Eighteen (18) Assemblies in the Volta Region at the close of nomination.

An update on the submission of applications for MDCEs in the Volta Region as monitored by GBC shows that North Tongu District topped the list with about Forty (40) Applicants followed by Ho Central with Twenty-Two (22) applicants and with North Dayi coming third with about Eighteen (18) person.

From the least number of aspirants, ⁠Akatsi North presented just Four (4) followed by Akatsi South with Six Applicants (6) and both Adaklu and ⁠Agotime Ziope have Eight (8) persons each.

Meanwhile, the NDC in a statement has tasked the regional vetting Committee to ensure applicants meet the eligibility criteria for Members of Parliament as stipulated in Article 94(3) (c) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

Also, the committee must be guided by customary, geographical, and ethnic balance when shortlisting the top three for Accra.

The Statement issued by the National Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey further directed for “due consideration must be given to the customary, geographical, and ethnic composition of each district to ensure a balanced distribution of political power and influence”.

He said this approach aims to foster unity and rally the entire district around a common developmental agenda.
