Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo has criticised the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Election Review Committee, describing it as “bogus” and lacking credibility.
The committee, chaired by Professor Mike Ocquaye, was set up to assess the party’s performance in the 2024 general elections. However, Adwoa Safo claims it was deliberately formed to sideline certain candidates while favouring others.
“This is a very bogus committee. It was intentionally set up to push out certain candidates and make way for others. How can that be a credible fact-finding committee?” she asked in an interview with Joy News on March 20, 2025.
She also accused Prof. Ocquaye of bias, questioning whether he could provide an honest assessment.
“If he truly has integrity, let him explain in his report why his son lost his seat. If he does it fairly, then I will accept the findings against Dr. Bawumia. Otherwise, the report will be meaningless,” she said.
Adwoa Safo called for an independent review, arguing that the party had more credible figures who could conduct an impartial investigation.
She also reaffirmed her backing for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.
“We are bringing Bawumia back. He is hardworking and deserves to be president. Everyone deserves a second chance,” she said, urging party members to support his bid, just as they had done for President Nana Akufo-Addo in previous elections.
