Former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has announced she will not seek re-election for the parliamentary seat.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News on Thursday, March 20, 2025, she cited personal and political challenges as reasons for her decision, despite serving the constituency for 12 years.
“Considering the issues I have been through and how I have been treated despite my sacrifices, I don’t think I will contest again. It will take my father to change my mind, but I have done 12 years and left a good legacy. Now, I am looking at bigger opportunities.”
The lawyer also expressed interest in higher political positions, including the role of Speaker of Parliament.
In the interview, Adwoa Safo also spoke about the future of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). She stated that the party would support former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a candidate for the 2028 presidential election.
“We are bringing Bawumia back. He has been marketed and deserves to be president because he is hard-working,” she said.
She emphasised that everyone deserves a second chance and that Dr. Bawumia would be given the opportunity to lead the party once again.
Adwoa Safo served as Dome-Kwabenya’s MP for 12 years, making significant contributions to the constituency. With her decision not to seek re-election, the race for the seat is now open to new candidates.
