The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has criticized the Mahama-led administration, accusing it of using intimidation tactics against political opponents while failing to deliver economic development for Ghanaians.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament during the debate on the 2025 Budget Statement on Tuesday, March 25, Afenyo-Markin alleged that state institutions were being used to harass opposition members.
“You can arrest all of us, but we will remain resolute. No amount of intimidation will break our spirit. In 2028, we will defeat you and restore true governance to this country,” he declared.
He further accused the government of prioritizing political persecution over national progress, warning that such an approach would ultimately lead to failure.
“A government that prioritises persecution over progress is bound to fail. Ghanaians are watching, and they will decide in 2028,” he stated.
On his part of Economic Mismanagement, the Minority Leader also criticized the government’s economic policies, claiming they were driving businesses to collapse. He argued that the administration had no clear plans for job creation, support for fisherfolk and farmers, or private sector development.
“They came into government with no clear plans to create jobs. They came into office with no clear plans for the fisherfolk and farmers of our country.” Afenyo-Markin stated.
He further alleged that the government was focused on dismissing public sector employees and stifling private businesses rather than implementing policies that would drive economic growth.
“It is clear that this government came into being to kill private sector initiatives. That is why they are unable to tell us a single initiative for the private sector. What is the work of the Trade Minister? They say they have an advisor for the 24-hour economy. What is his work?” he questioned.
The Minority Leader called on his colleagues in the opposition to remain steadfast and assured supporters that they would continue to hold the government accountable.
