Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin says he has not yet begun to fully oppose the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Afenyo-Markin explained that, for now, he is allowing the government space to operate. However, he hinted that stronger opposition could come later.
“At a point, the NDC put up a posture. It’s difficult to be in government. Now, I’m giving them a breather. I haven’t started any opposition yet,” the Effutu MP said.
He recalled how the NDC, when in opposition, made things difficult for the government at the time. Now, as Minority Leader, he is taking a different approach by allowing the government time to settle.
Despite this, he praised Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga for his diplomatic leadership in Parliament. He said Ayariga has helped build consensus between the Majority and Minority sides.
“Ayariga’s diplomacy is at an all-time best. He engaged in some useful discussions that led to the apology,” Afenyo-Markin noted.
His comments suggest that while he is holding back for now, a more active opposition may come in the future.
