Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has declared his side’s opposition to the approval of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, citing concerns over transparency and accountability.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Afenyo-Markin revealed that Ablakwa failed to provide key documents requested by the Appointments Committee. “The nominee has submitted only two out of nine documents requested by the Committee. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands,” he stated.
The Minority Leader accused Ablakwa of inconsistency, highlighting that the North Tongu MP has often scrutinized others for similar issues. “If you are holding people’s feet to the fire, demanding transparency and accountability, it means that you yourself, when subjected to it, you will oblige,” Afenyo-Markin argued.
He further distanced his caucus from Ablakwa’s nomination, stating, “We the Minority have decided to wash our hands off his approval. Every sin at the Airport Hills, we are not part of the sins that he has committed. Carry your own cross.”
Ablakwa, known for his parliamentary oversight work exposing alleged financial mismanagement and corruption, has been a vocal critic of government actions. His investigations into presidential travel expenses and other high-profile cases have drawn significant public attention. However, his nomination now faces resistance from his parliamentary colleagues over questions about his personal accountability
