Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says comments by former President Mahama describing President Akufo-Addo and people in his government as “Akyem Sakawa Boys” in relation to the Agyapa Royalties Deal are divisive. Former President John Mahama endorsed an article on his official Facebook, highlighting the disparaging portion. The former President has since come under attack, with many describing his comments as unpresidential.

Addressing a durbar of Chiefs and people of Gushegu, Dr. Bawumia expressed surprise and disgust at the former President’s comments, saying Ghana is a united country which has moved beyond the kind of divisive politics by the former President. We bring you more in this report by Mercy Darko.

Vice President Bawumia said the recent utterances of John Mahama does not augur well for democracy. He noted that President Akufo-Addo, who former President Mahama directed his disparaging ethnic attacks to, is one who is widely acknowledged as a champion of peace, having played a significant role in the resolution of the Dagbon crisis. Dr. Bawumia further wondered why former President Mahama disparaged Akyems, who are proud Ghanaians, like any other ethnic group. Dr. Bawumia sent a clear message to former President Mahama that the December elections will be fought on competence and records not on ethnic lines.

Vice President Bawumia urged Ghanaians to vote massively for Akufo-Addo, who he described as a unifier. This he has demonstrated by restoring peace in Dagbon and other places.
