In a recent appearance on GTV Breakfast’s Manifesto Watch segment, Kwame Owusu Danso, running mate for the Movement for Change, voiced strong concerns over Ghana’s ongoing galamsey (illegal mining) crisis, attributing the problem to failed leadership.

Speaking with host Maltiti Sayida Sadick, Owusu Danso criticized both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their lack of progress on key national issues, particularly illegal mining.

“The people behind the galamsey are the politicians,” Owusu Danso boldly stated, arguing that the country’s inability to address illegal mining is a direct result of leadership failure. He expressed frustration with the current political landscape, questioning whether the promises of change made by the two major political parties have truly benefited Ghanaians.

Owusu Danso also highlighted Ghana’s struggling economy, noting that citizens are “suffocating because of bad economy” and blaming greed for the nation’s economic downturn. He further expressed disappointment with the hung parliament elected in the last election, which he initially saw as a promising opportunity for balanced decision-making, but now views as a missed chance for real progress.

while criticizing mainstream political parties, Owusu Danso lauded the commitment of his movement’s presidential candidate, Alan Kyerematen. He described Kyerematen as the only leader with the resolve to tackle the galamsey issue head-on.

The Movement for Change has made youth empowerment a central pillar of its platform, and Owusu Danso reaffirmed his commitment to partnering with Kyerematen to bring about meaningful reform in Ghana, particularly in addressing youth unemployment and improving economic conditions for all citizens.
