Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has been engaging Journalists in Parliament on a variety of topical issues, including his personal security, the security of parliament and other developmental matters.
The meeting was to give the Journalists who report from Parliament a platform to engage with the Leader of Ghana’s Parliament and ask questions, with the view to receiving a no holes bared explaining.
The Speaker also used the occasion to get feedback from the reporters, as he sat at the same table with them. In his submissions, Mr. Bagbin was frank and unequivocal and questioned some of the policies that were put in place without recourse to their repercussions on the general economy.
According to him, “It is the focus of every country to ensure they are in control of the banking sector. So if we had Ghanaians with banks having challenges, it is incumbent on us to make them succeed. I think our colleagues in government erred in not seeing it that way.”
Mr. Bagbin accused the Government of using huge money to destroy some Ghanaian owned banks.
“They tried and ensured that Ghanaians making it in the sector lost out and instead of using about GH¢5 billion to help the banks to survive, we ended up losing GH¢25 billion, and we have still not been able to sanitize the system and there is still a lot of work to be done,” he posited.
