Right Honorable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has been sworn in again as Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, promising to use his vast experience and diplomatic skills to guide the 9th Parliament effectively.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Bagbin emphasized the importance of unity, teamwork, and Parliament’s role as a defender of Ghana’s democracy.

Having served as Ghana’s longest-standing legislator and Speaker of the 8th Parliament, he highlighted how his previous term, especially in a hung Parliament, prepared him for the challenges ahead.

“I return to lead the 9th Parliament not only with my experience as the longest-serving legislator but also with four years of speakership in challenging times,” he said.

Mr. Bagbin called for trust and cooperation among Members of Parliament, stressing that collaboration is key to achieving progress.

He also urged Ghanaians to stay engaged with Parliament’s activities, assuring them of transparency and a focus on the nation’s needs over political interests.

“As Speaker, I promise to guide this House with diligence and a commitment to strengthening our democracy,” he added.

Mr. Bagbin’s leadership will begin with overseeing the swearing-in of newly elected Members of Parliament and the election of Deputy Speakers—ceremonial tasks that will set the stage for the 9th Parliament’s work.

His message was clear: diplomacy, maturity, and unity will be the guiding principles as Ghana’s Parliament embarks on this new chapter.
