Dr. Frederick Yao Mac Palm and eight others who were arrested for an attempted coup plot have finally been charged with treason felony by the Kaneshie district court.
They have also been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and possession of explosives, arms and Ammunitions without lawful excuse.
Two other suspects Lance Corporal Nii Ankrah and Lance Corporal Baba Ibrahim have however been discharged.
Earlier when they were arrested, the council for the suspects, Victor Kojoga said, the state could not charge his clients with treason but the charge has been pressed against them.
The suspects Dr. Mac Palm, Kafui Donyah , Bright Alan Debrah Fosu, Colonel Samuel Kojo Gameli, Gershon Akpa, WO2 Esther Saan Dekumini, Corporal Seidu Abubarkar, Lance Corporal (C/L) Sylvester Akakpewo and L/C Ali Solomon did not have their pleas taken because the court does not have jurisdiction to take the plea of suspects.
The suspects apart from Dr. Mac Palm, Kafui Donyah and Bright Alan Debrah, are all employees of the Ghana Armed Forces ( GAF).
Presenting the fact of the case Prosecution led by ASP Sylvester Asare told the court that all the accused persons who are members of an NGO, Take Action Ghana had from the month of June 2018 to September 2019 been holding series of meetings and contacted people to manufacture guns for them.
The accused persons also agreed together to organize demonstrations against government and take over some government institutions like the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, (GBC), Jubilee House, 37 military hospital, Burm Camp and the police training school but was foiled by security intelligence.
ASP Asare pleaded with the court to allow the suspects to continue to be in the BNI custody to continue and facilitate investigations but the court declined because they violated the court instructions of allowing their lawyers and some family members of the suspects to visit them.
The court however, remanded the civilian suspects to police custody and the soldiers to military custody.
The presiding magistrate Rosemond Agyiri also advised lawyers for the accuse persons to apply for bail at the High Court for their clients since she does not have the jurisdiction to grant the accuses persons bail.
The case has been adjourned to the 28 of this month.
