Communications Officer for Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has sharply criticized the former Finance Minister Amin Adam for claiming that the previous administration did not collect or implement the betting tax.
Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Solomon Owusu accused the former Finance Minister of dishonesty and defended the prior administration’s actions.
Mr.Owusu emphatically refuted the Finance Minister’s claims. “There is no doubt, in fact the former finance minister lied, I mean he should stop that, you see,” Owusu stated. He doubled down on his accusation, adding, “How can you say he lied? But it’s obvious, it has been implemented since August of 2024, people, they were taking money from people’s witnesses and so on and so forth. So he couldn’t have come in the public space to make such a bold statement.”
The spokesperson went on to criticize the Finance Minister’s conduct, suggesting that political considerations are influencing his statements. “He shouldn’t be going on that tangent. He’s a fine brain that must not allow politics to dictate… He must not allow politics to dictate his thoughts,” Owusu asserted.
Owusu further referenced the work of Amin Anta in another role to illustrate his point. “Go and listen to Amin Anta when he was in charge of ASEP, the executive director, and the sort of arguments, couldn’t ones as such. So he cannot, on the author of politics, be destroying the hard-earned reputation,” Owusu stated. “And I disagree. Before this budget.”
Owusu’s forceful response underscores the ongoing political debate surrounding the implementation of the betting tax and the credibility of competing narratives surrounding the issue. The dispute highlights the charged atmosphere as the current administration attempts to differentiate itself from its predecessor.
