The Ghana Institute of Architects has called on government to set up a Board for the Architectural Council with immediate effect.

President of the Institute Richard Dadey, who made the call in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana, said it is unfortunate government has disregarded its call for the setting up of the Board.

Mr. Dadey said the lack of a Board for the Council has resulted in many infractions for some public projects.

In view of this, steps must be taken to ensure a Board is constituted.

Mr. Dadey decried the lack of transparency in the award of some public projects. He cited the Parliamentary chamber contract which was awarded to Adjaye and Associates.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Service Board, PSB, has justified its decision to award the contract for the architectural design of the proposed new chamber to UK-based Sir David Adjaye and Associates.

According to the Board, the award of the contract to Adjaye and Associates followed due process which led to the selection of the architectural firm.

The justification by the Parliamentary Service Board follows complaints by the Design Associates Development Consortium, that government had sidelined them by favouring the foreign-based architectural firm which they claimed had been awarded 12 state projects.

The Consortium owned by Dr. Ekow Sam also petitioned President Akufo-Addo citing legal breaches in the award of multiple projects to Sir David Adjaye.

However, the Parliament Service Board in a seven-page response signed by its Secretary, Matthew Abrefa Tawiah, described claims in the petition as unfortunate and far-fetched saying the award to  Sir David Adjaye and Associates went through the normal processes .
