The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called on political parties to focus on presenting their policies to voters rather than engaging in divisive or hateful speech as Ghana prepares for the December 7 general election.
Speaking on Wednesday, November 20, Otumfuo emphasised the importance of peace and urged all political actors to avoid actions or words that could lead to violence. He encouraged a campaign atmosphere centered on unity and constructive dialogue.
The Asantehene made these remarks during a visit by Kofi Akpaloo, the Presidential Candidate of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG). Akpaloo, accompanied by his party leaders, visited Otumfuo to seek his blessings and support for the upcoming elections.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stressed that the elections should showcase Ghana’s democratic maturity. He called on all stakeholders to prioritise peace and the nation’s progress.
“It seems my children are the ones contesting in the elections, and yes, Kofi is one of them. I pray that everything goes well for him. I’ve seen his flyers in town, and we pray for peace during the elections. Ghana will remain strong through God’s power,” Otumfuo stated.
He added, “Winning an election requires patience. I pray my son Kofi succeeds. I know that if he wins, he will return here to visit. I also thank my in-laws and his team for their support. Everyone must work together to ensure peace prevails.”
