General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, says a future National Democratic Congress, NDC, government will abolish the E-Levy should the ruling party succeed in passing the Bill into law.

According to Mr Asiedu Nketia, the NDC is not opposed to taxation but sees the E-levy as an attempt by the government to rob ordinary citizens of their source of livelihood amidst the prevailing economic hardship in the country.

Yentua Demo

Addressing the media in Accra during the ‘Yentua’ demonstration by the Coalition of Concerned Ghanaians, the NDC Chief Scribe described the proposed E-levy as not taxation but rather daylight robbery.

He said there are several alternatives for revenue generation and questioned the rationale to phase out the collection of road tolls.

National Chairman of the NDC Samuel Ofosu Ampofo downplayed the exigency of the E-levy.

He contended that the proposed levy cannot be the solution to the country’s floundering economy as according to him, the Akufo-Addo government has not been able to make good use of the over four hundred billion cedis mobilised under the regime.
