Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has rejected claims that National Security operatives conducted an illegal raid on the residence of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr Ernest Addison.

Addressing the media on Monday, March 24, 2025, Dr Ayine maintained that the operation was a constitutionally sanctioned search, backed by warrants issued by the High Court.

The Minority in Parliament had accused the government of orchestrating an unconstitutional operation at Dr Addison’s home. They also alleged that security personnel stole GH¢10,000 and pieces of jewellery during the search. However, Dr Ayine strongly refuted these claims, describing them as an attempt to discredit the work of law enforcement.

“If the media wants, I can make those warrants available. There was no raid on his house, and there was nothing illegal or unconstitutional about what we did,” Dr Ayine stated.

Dr Ayine’s remarks follow ongoing investigations that are part of the government’s broader ORAL initiative—a program aimed at tackling financial misconduct and corruption. He assured the public that all law enforcement agencies involved, including the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and National Security, were operating within the bounds of the law.

He stressed that the Constitution, under Article 18, places limits on privacy rights and allows for legally sanctioned searches when due process is followed.

The Attorney General further criticised opposition figures for what he described as an attempt to tarnish the reputation of law enforcement officers.

He accused the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, of abusing parliamentary immunity to defame public officials conducting legitimate investigations.

“We have a recording of Addison and what he said about the raid,” Dr Ayine revealed. He indicated a willingness to release the recording if challenged. He urged critics to desist from maligning security officials and to recognise the legality of the operation.
