The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has promised to give his best and remain fully committed to his role if confirmed as Speaker of Ghana’s Ninth Parliament.

This comes after President-elect John Dramani Mahama directed the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament to nominate Bagbin for the position.

President-elect Mahama described Bagbin as an experienced leader whose guidance will be essential in addressing the challenges ahead in Parliament.

In response to his nomination, Bagbin expressed gratitude to the President-elect, the NDC leadership, and the party’s parliamentary executives for their trust in him.

“I am deeply humbled by His Excellency’s confidence in my ability to lead Parliament as we start a new chapter in our democratic journey,” Bagbin said.

He emphasised his dedication to justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law, values he has upheld throughout his years of service.

Bagbin assured Ghanaians of his commitment to transparency, integrity, and inclusiveness in Parliament.

“I will, more than before, rededicate myself fully to this responsibility, working to strengthen our democratic institutions and ensure Parliament serves the people effectively,” he added.

The Speaker also thanked the NDC’s National Executives and Parliamentary Leadership for giving him the chance to serve again.
