The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched its manifesto for the upcoming elections, promising to deliver broad-based prosperity to all Ghanaians.
The manifesto, unveiled at a historic ceremony in Takoradi exactly 16 years after the Vice President was initially unveiled as the then running mate of President Akufo-Addo, outlines the party’s vision for Ghana’s future and its plans to transform the country’s economy.
In his speech, the Flag bearer and Vice President, Dr. Mahamud Bawumia, praised the enthusiasm and dedication of the NPP’s rank and file, saying, “I am grateful for the hard work and commitment of our party members, who have worked tirelessly to put together this wonderful document.” He also thanked the manifesto committee, chaired by Honourable Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, for their dedication.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted the party’s achievements in office, including its response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its efforts to revitalise the economy.
“We have taken time to highlight our achievements because track record is a significant predictor of credibility and the potential to do more,” he added.
Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the NPP claims to have made significant progress in various sectors, including job creation and economic growth. He took the opportunity to eulogise President Akufo-Addo for his significant contribution towards the development of the country since his swearing in as leader of the nation.
“We promised change, and we have made significant progress. History will be kind to you, and you shall be remembered for your unprecedented achievements and the millions of lives you have touched,” Dr. Bawumia retorted.
The NPP’s manifesto also outlines its plans for the future, including the introduction of a growth mindset curriculum in schools to help students build critical skills such as problem-solving, opportunity spotting and design thinking. This they believe will be evidential as the country drives on the path of digitalisation to meet the 4th industrial revolution.
“We need to invigorate the can-do spirit of Ghanaians to believe that we can even do better than we have ever imagined.”
Dr. Bawumia further outlined his vision for Ghana’s future, saying, “My vision is to create a tent big enough to accommodate every Ghanaian, to tap into the resourcefulness and talents of our people, irrespective of our different ethnic, political, and religious backgrounds.”
The manifesto, which is titled Bold Solutions for the Future, focuses on creating sustainable jobs with meaningful pay, ensuring food sufficiency, and participating fully in the fourth industrial revolution. It also stresses the need to empower the private sector to take key participation in the unemployment reduction strategy and financing of some developmental projects within the country.
It also highlights road maps to alleviating the economic burden that has led to the increased cost of living that Ghanaians are faced with.
The NPP’s comprehensive plan aims to harness this potential and create a prosperous future for all Ghanaians.
The NPP is seeking to retain power in the upcoming elections, and its manifesto is seen as a key part of its campaign.
“Ghana needs bold solutions to deal with the challenges we face, and that is what I am offering in asking for the mandate of the Ghanaians.”
