The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on Thursday evening launched the memoir of Mr. Joseph Adam Braimah, a stalwart of Pre-and post-Colonial Ghana.
The over 300 page biography chronicles the life and political contribution of Mr. J.A. Braimah to Ghana’s development and politics.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia described him as a man with Varied Talents, Common Integrity and an Embodiment of Public Service.
This was a unique gathering, and one could easily lose count of the rich display of the traditional “Batakari” or “fugu”.
The guests gathered at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences to celebrate the distinguished personality, Mr. Joseph Adam Braimah.
Born on 31st August 1916, in Kpembe in the Savannah Region, Kabuchewura Joseph Adam Braimah, is said to be a man of many parts – he was a politician, an Author, a Chief and founding member of the Northern People’s Party, a political derivation of the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition.
Mr. J. A. Braimah, is considered a trailblazer in Ghanaian Politics as well as a leading figure in the Nothern Territories Council Politics.
He worked hard and served in all governments in post independent Ghana from Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s regime to Dr. K. A. Busia’s government, an indication of his commitment to the Ghana agenda. He was the first Northerner to be appointed as a Minister in Ghana in 1951.
Mr. J. A Braimah was adjudged the most popular Minister in Dr. Nkrumah’s government in 1952 by the Daily Graphic when he served as Minister for Communications.
He was a Parliamentarian in 1951 for the Northern Peoples Party, NPP. He led an opposition to the Preventive Detention Act, by Dr. Nkrumah’s government in 1958.
He was the National Vice Chairman of the United Party. To the Author of the Book Mr. Alhassan Ahmed, J.A Braimah was a trailblazer.
The General Secretary of the NPP Mr. John Boadu, described J.A. Braimah as a stalwart who must be celebrated for selflessly contributing to Ghanaian politics, especially for the establishment of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition.
The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, described J.A. Braimah as one who deserves every recognition and celebration.
J.A. Braimah, died at 70 in 1986. He had 11 wives and 52 children. The first copy of the book was bought by the President, Nana Akufo-Addo for 50,000 cedis.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, bought the second for 30,000 cedis, and the third copy was bought by the New Patriotic Party for 200,000 cedis.
