Former Obuasi East MP, Edward Ennin, has expressed concerns over New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia‘s failure to announce his running mate for the 2024 election. Ennin believes the delay casts doubt on Bawumia’s ability to lead the country.

“If he can’t make a simple decision like this, how can he be trusted with the presidency?” Ennin asked on Accra-based Onua FM. He noted that the NPP’s constitution requires the selection of a running mate twelve months before a major election, a deadline Bawumia has missed.

Rumours suggest internal party disagreements are behind the delay, with some opposing Bawumia’s preferred choice. Ennin questioned Bawumia’s courage to stand up to party pressures, saying, “If he can’t choose his own running mate, how can he be expected to make tough decisions as president?”

A recent survey by the National Investigative Bureau (NIB) shows Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the preferred choice among NPP members for running mate. The delay has sparked agitation within the party, raising questions about Bawumia’s leadership ability.
