Alan Kyerematen, the independent presidential candidate and founder of the Movement for Change, has revealed his strategy for tackling Ghana’s unemployment crisis. As part of his Great Transformation Plan (GTP), Kyerematen aims to create 3 million jobs within 18 months of his election. This bold vision underscores his commitment to empowering Ghanaians, especially the youth, and revitalising the economy.

Prioritising Job Creation
During a recent media engagement, Kyerematen highlighted the urgency of addressing unemployment in Ghana, stating, “My vision is to create 3 million jobs within 18 months in office.” He emphasised that job creation is not just an economic necessity but a moral imperative, reflecting the needs and aspirations of the Ghanaian people.

Kyerematen’s plan to generate millions of jobs is centered around stimulating the private sector and enabling an enterprise-driven economy. “Our people deserve better than they are getting now. That’s the reality,” he said, criticising the current administration’s efforts and emphasising the need for a more proactive and effective approach to job creation.

Empowering Young Entrepreneurs
A significant aspect of Kyerematen’s job creation strategy focuses on empowering young entrepreneurs. He proposes to provide seed funding and concessional loans without the need for collateral, fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Ghana. “Our goal is to give young people the resources they need to start and sustain their businesses,” Kyerematen explained. This approach aims to reduce the financial barriers that often hinder young entrepreneurs from realising their potential.

By encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth, Kyerematen believes that Ghana can tap into the creativity and energy of its young population to drive economic growth and create jobs.

Enhancing Technical and Vocational Education
Kyerematen’s GTP also includes a strong emphasis on enhancing technical and vocational education to ensure that the workforce is equipped with the necessary skills for the modern economy. He plans to continue the free Senior High School (SHS) education initiative and introduce a compulsory, certificated one-year internship program for graduates. “This will provide practical experience and open pathways to entrepreneurship,” he said.

By bridging the gap between education and employment, Kyerematen’s plan aims to equip young Ghanaians with the practical skills and experience they need to succeed in the job market.

Criticism of Existing Policies
Kyerematen did not shy away from criticising the current administration’s policies, particularly the imposition of the COVID levy. “Ghana is coming out of an IMF program with a number of restrictions. Yet the current administration has saddled citizens with new levies like the COVID levy,” he remarked. Kyerematen argued that such policies place unnecessary financial burdens on Ghanaians and hinder economic growth.

Instead of imposing new taxes, Kyerematen’s GTP focuses on stimulating the economy through job creation and support for businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). “We must create a business-friendly environment that attracts investments and encourages entrepreneurship,” he stated.

A Vision for the Future
Alan Kyerematen’s Great Transformation Plan offers a comprehensive approach to job creation and economic empowerment in Ghana. By prioritising job creation, supporting young entrepreneurs, enhancing education and skills development, and criticising ineffective policies, Kyerematen presents a clear and actionable plan for the future of Ghana. As Election 2024 approaches, Kyerematen’s vision for job creation is a key reason why he believes Ghanaians should vote for him.
