Leader of the Minority group in Parliament, and MP for Ajumako Enyan Esiam Constituency, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has declared that the protestors will not leave the premises of the Bank of Ghana if the governor of the Central Bank refuses to come out to receive their petition.

The #OccupyBoG protest is an organised peaceful demonstration planned and embarked on by the Minority group in the Parliament of Ghana to express their frustrations and also to demand the resignation of the governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, and his deputies.

Taking place on Tuesday, October 3, Members of Parliament from the minority caucus and other NDC executives and members joined in their numbers to embark on the peaceful protest.

In an interview, the leader of the minority caucus mentioned that the protest forms part of every Ghanaian’s civic right and therefore the reason every Ghanaian needs to join. He also stressed that the ill economy and administration of the current government are the objectives of the demonstration.

Dr. Ato Forson stated that the petition is to ask for the governor of the Central Bank of Ghana to step down following the recent activities of the bank printing money without Parliament’s approval and also for embarking on a new headquarters building amidst the economic hardship. He emphasised that if the governor refuses to show up to accept their petition, the group and protestors will not leave.

“We will not leave there until he receives the petition. We will stay there till thy kingdom comes. He must be the one to receive the petition, nothing more, nothing less.”

He further mentioned that the protest is peacefully against the conduct of the governor, and therefore they expect only the governor to come and receive their petition. He also said that after some time, if the country sees no change, they will embark on another one too.
