The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly (BMA), together with the Chiefs and People have expressed gratitude to the President and the National Security Minister for absorbing the feeding cost of the military personnel deployed to the township to maintain peace.

This will enable Municipal Assembly (MA) channel her District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and their Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to developmental projects.

This was disclosed by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Joseph Amiyuure Aturah, at a meeting with the press organised in Bolgatanga.

The major challenge in the Municipality is the state of insecurity as a result of the chieftaincy dispute necessitating the Military to be deployed to the Township to maintain peace.

In October last year, the Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga complained to the media in the region that whereas some Assemblies spent their IGF and DACF on developmental projects and the provision of basic social amenities to benefit the citizenry, the Assembly could not do same because so much was spent on the Military Personnel.

The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly spent about three hundred and thirty-three thousand four hundred and sixteen Ghana Cedis from its Internally Generated Fund (IGF) and the Assembly’s Common Fund (DACF) to cater for Military personnel within the Municipality.

Speaking at meet the press series held at the Regional House of Chiefs Conference Hall in Bolgatanga, the MCE, Joseph Atura Amiyuure, acknowledge the President through the National Security Minister’s intervention in absorbing the feeding cost as this will allow them to channel their resources into developmental projects.

The MCE explained that, the Municipal common fund hitherto was used for the upkeep of the military personnel because of insecurity, until when the President visited, he put the matter before him and he gladly asked the National Security Minister to take care of it.

MCE therefore on behalf of the people of the Upper East Region expressed his appreciation to the President.

The Regional Director of the Ghana Highways Authority, Philip Samwini, said work has already started on the Bolgatanga – Bawku- Pulmakom road.

Mr Samwini indicated that, the Kobori River on the Bawku road will receive a new bridge while that of the river Cola in the Bolgatanga Municipality will also receive twin bridges with dual carriage into the Municipality.

He advised inhabitants along the road that any structure affected will be removed and appealed to them to bear with the contractor for any inconvenience.

“As travelers of this stretch of road cannot wait to see its completion, certainly, it will boost economic activities and productivity will soar and a plus to the current administration for taking a bold step.”
