The Cape Coast High court has granted an injunction against James Gyakye Quayson, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP-elect for the Assin North Constituency.

This follows a petition filed against the MP-elect on the account of his Canadian citizenship when he was filing to contest in the 2020 parliamentary elections.

According to our Cape Coast correspondent, the court ruled restraining the MP-elect from holding himself out as the MP-elect for the Assin North constituency and also presenting himself to be sworn in until the final determination of the petition.

The MP-elect, according to the petitioner owes allegiance to both Ghana and Canada which contravenes Article 94 (2) (a) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP-elect, polled 17,498 in the December 7, 2020 elections while the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Madam Abena Durowaa Mensah had 14,793.
