The Member of Parliament for Adansi-Asokwa, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has disclosed that the NPP caucus will charge the speaker of parliament for contempt after the speaker’s decision to adjourn the meeting of the House indefinitely for the second time.

Addressing the press after the Speaker’s ruling on Thursday, November 7, 2024, the Member of Parliament expressed strong disagreement with the Speaker’s decision. He mentioned that despite being instructed by the Supreme Court to hold off on declaring four seats in the House vacant, thus giving the National Democratic Congress (NDC) the MPs numerical advantage, the Speaker failed to comply.

“The Supreme Court has simply asked that he should give an order to restore what the situation was. We recalled Parliament and when he sat the Speaker was supposed to follow the ruling by the Supreme Court accordingly so we will know that we are going back as Majority but why should the NDC rush to go and sit at the side of Parliament,” he added.

Furthermore, he explained that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs were absent from the session that day because the NDC MPs occupied their usual seating area. He argued that the Speaker should not have allowed the NDC MPs to occupy the Majority side of the House.
