The evergreen and hardworking Ahafo Regional Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Madam Charity Gardiner, has been nominated by President, John Dramani Mahama to serve as the first female Regional Minister for the Ahafo region.
Madam Charity Gardiner’s nomination for the position of Regional Minister comes as no surprise to many political watchers.
The leader of the Ahafo NDC Regional Women’s Wing and her commandants worked tirelessly during the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Their combined efforts produced five (5) out of the six (6) parliamentary seats for the NDC, including the Asunafo North Constituency, which the party has never won before since the creation of the constituency.
Again, the combined efforts of the Ahafo NDC Regional Women’s Wing, the youth wing, constituency, ward, and branch executives saw the NDC’s 2024 president winning the Ahafo region for the first time in Ghana’s political history.
Other names that have emerged, like Oti Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong, and James Gunu, the Volta Regional Secretary of the party, also come as no surprise, as their works in their respective regions are a testament to their well-deserving appointments.
Ghana’s President, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, officially announced the nomination of the 10 regional ministers out of the 16 regions.
The six outstanding regions are Bono, Bono East, and Central. The rest are Western, Western North, and Upper West.
The President has, therefore, requested Parliament’s approval for the appointment of the 10 regional ministers.
A communication from the presidency has been sent to the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, seeking the vetting and confirmation of the regional nominees.
The Regional Ministers designated include:
