Joyce Bawah Mogtari, special aide to President-elect John Dramani Mahama, has claimed that corruption within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caused the failure of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face program on Tuesday, Mogtari explained that the Akufo-Addo-led government’s inability to tackle corruption weakened public trust and hurt Bawumia’s chances.
She also criticised President Akufo-Addo for not listening to the concerns of Ghanaians, saying his efforts to support Bawumia’s campaign often made things worse.
“Corruption is what destroyed Bawumia’s campaign. His boss [President Akufo-Addo] wasn’t listening to the people, and every time he tried to campaign for his Vice President, it backfired,” Mogtari said.
Mogtari suggested that the outcome might have been different with another candidate, but Akufo-Addo’s involvement worsened the situation.
Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, faced criticism over his leadership amidst growing concerns about governance and transparency under the current administration.
