A member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), manifesto committee, Kwasi Adarkwa, has emphasised the crucial role of industrialisation in transforming Ghana’s economy. “Industrialisation is the first step; without it, we cannot develop and harness our natural resources,” he stated.

In an interview with Maltiti Sayida Sadick on GTV’s breakfast show on October 21, 2024, Adarkwa highlighted industrialisation as a key area for mass employment, steady wage growth, and increased incomes. He drew attention to Ghana’s economic history, from its colonial past as the Gold Coast to the present.

“Considering our economic history and the extractive nature of our economy, the state must lead industrialisation and manufacturing efforts to change the economic structure,” he added.

Additionally, the CPP plans to implement former President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s state-led industrialisation policy. Adarkwa explained, “This means the state will take the lead in building factories, ensuring they operate effectively to improve our economic circumstances.”

Furthermore, Adarkwa outlined the CPP’s vision for export-led industrialisation, focusing on production and exportation. This approach, he noted, will create numerous job opportunities for Ghana’s youth.
