Convention People’s Party’s (CPP) running mate, Lawyer Wayne Ghanamannti, expresses concerns about the Judiciary’s role in calming tensions during demonstrations.

In an interview with Maltiti Sadiya Sadick on GTV Breakfast show, he emphasized that while demonstrations are necessary, they should not infringe on others’ rights, such as blocking roads and denying access to medical care.

“When people demonstrate, there are sometimes excesses, but I don’t support blocking roads and denying people access to medication,” he stated.

Additionally, he believes the Judiciary failed to intervene effectively, exacerbating the situation instead of calming it down, he stressed that in similar situations, the Judiciary must take a proactive role in restoring peace.”The Court should have come in to calm the situation, but it rather made things worse”, he added.

Furthermore, he urged the Judiciary to recognize its responsibility in maintaining national stability, saying, “Moving forward, the Judiciary needs to understand that when the nation is on a trajectory they must intervene to calm situations,” he stated.

Ghanamannti highlighted the urgent need to address the galamsey issue, warning that if left unchecked, it will lead to severe water scarcity, forcing the country to import water despite being blessed with numerous water bodies.
