Dr. Bawumia rounds off campaign in Ashanti Region, meets Otumfuo

By Francis Abedi

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu has advised the NPP Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to make realistic promises to Ghanaians in his quest for power in the upcoming elections.

The Asantehene said the only way Dr. Bawumia can win the trust of the electorate is by making feasible promises.

He made the statement when the NPP Flagbearer called on him at Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to seek his blessings ahead of the December polls.

Dr. Bawumia who was on the last of a three-day campaign tour of the Ashanti region, was accompanied by National and Regional Executives of the NPP as well as some government officials.

Dr. Bawumia outlined his plans to review the tax regime and promised a flat tax rate for easy compliance.

He said currently, traders and businesses have always been in a tussle with the Ghana Revenue Authority over their taxes and said the system is a bit cumbersome, making compliance difficult.

He believed with the introduction of the flat tax regime, it would be easier for the private sector to pay and thus reduce the cost of commodities.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu entreated Dr. Bawumia to clearly communicate his policies to the understanding of Ghanaians so as to be given the mandate during the December polls.

Dr. Bawumia has for the past three days been engaging identifiable groups and chiefs in the Ashanti region to outline his vision and seek their input in drafting the party’s manifesto. They include the business community and leadership of various traders’ associations in the region.

They emphasized among others, the need for the stability of the Cedi to the Dollar and to subsidize import duties as means to protect Ghanaian industries from collapsing.
