The family of late former National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Adjei has set May 31, 2019, for his funeral rites, both in Accra and Nkonya, in the Oti Region.
He will finally be laid to rest at his hometown, Nkonya, in the Oti Region, Saturday, June 01, 2019, after a memorial service at the forecourt of the State House in Accra on May 31, 2019.
This was announced at the traditional one-week observation, held Thursday, March 21, 2019, in Accra.
Dr. Dr. Kwabena Adjei died on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital after a short illness. He was 76.
The late Dr. Kwabena Adjei was a former Member of Parliament for Biakoye Constituency, a former Minister of Agriculture and a former Majority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament.
Dr. Adjei entered politics in 1978 and was elected as a Council Member of the Jasikan District Council in the Volta region.
He was a Member of Parliament for the Biakoye Constituency from 1993 to 1996 and served as First Deputy Majority Chief Whip from 1993 to 1994.
He was re-elected in 1996 till 2004.
In 2005, Dr. Adjei became the National Chairman for the NDC till 2014.
Present at the ceremony were leading members of the NDC led by Party Founder and Former President Jerry John Rawlings, Vice Chairman of the Council of Elders Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, former Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho, NDC Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, General Secretary Johnson Aseidu Nketia and the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.
Others were Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu, former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Ato Ahwoi, Professor Kwamena Ahwoi and National Executives of the party.
