Dr Omane Boamah has pledged to re-initiate joint training and recreation to strengthen the bond between security agencies

Defence Minister-Designate, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, says he will re-initiate joint training sessions, and recreation among the various security agencies as a way of fostering stronger ties between the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies.

He has thus proposed the organisation of joint training programmes and recreational activities as a means to enhance socialisation and reduce inter-agency competition.

“The more we allow them to interface like this, we will be able to limit the clashes that we see, if not to eliminate them,” he added.

Dr. Omane Boamah answering questions posed to him by members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee during his vetting on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, expressed concern about the growing trend of assigning military personnel to perform tasks traditionally handled by the police.

According to him, such practices could create a perception of superiority among security agencies, potentially leading to unnecessary rivalry and clashes.

While acknowledging that collaboration among Ghana’s security agencies has been commendable, he also emphasized that there is room for improvement.
